Redefining the “Pause”

Let’s take a moment to break down the word menopause — specifically, the pause part. By definition:

  • As a noun: A temporary stop or break in action, speech, or thought

  • As a verb: To stop briefly before continuing

But here’s the thing — the pause in perimenopause and menopause doesn’t quite live up to either. There’s nothing brief or temporary about this transition. If anything, it feels more like a menoSTOP. Yes, we stop getting our periods (and honestly, hallelujah for that), but in return, we’re handed a cascade of new and unwelcome experiences: brain fog, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, mood swings — and that’s not even touching on what’s happening below the belt.

This isn’t a pause. It’s an indefinite detour — one that can shift how we look, feel, move, relate, and live. It can leave us feeling like strangers in our own bodies. But what if we redefined what this “pause” could mean?

What if it weren’t a stop, but a turning point?

Not a loss, but a permission slip?

Not a breakdown, but a breakthrough?

This is where your Second Act begins.

At Second Act Yoga & Wellness, we believe this chapter of life isn’t the beginning of the end — it’s the beginning of a new alignment. A chance to come home to your body with curiosity instead of criticism. A time to reclaim your energy, your rhythms, your voice, your breath — on your own terms.

Through mindful movement, breathwork, and community, we offer more than yoga — we offer support for the whole woman, navigating the often messy, sometimes surprising, and deeply transformative terrain of midlife.

Our offerings are designed to meet you exactly where you are:

  • Yoga to support hormonal balance, mobility, and nervous system regulation

  • Breathwork and meditation to calm the mind and anchor you in the moment

  • Workshops to help you navigate your path forward with purpose and joy

The pause in menopause may not be temporary — but it can be transformative.

If you’re curious about what this transformation could look like for you, I invite you to join me this fall for a soul-nourishing retreat on the beautiful shores of the Outer Banks, NC. From October 9th – October 12th, this is your invitation to pause, reconnect, and rise into your next chapter — with movement, stillness, connection and the ocean as your backdrop.
